year career as a teenager playing piano and singing in Newark,
NJ clubs in the early 40s. By the late 40s, she was a singing star
performing with Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker earning her
the title of Queen of Bebop. By the end of her career, she was a
major influence on jazz vocalists.”
